Are Glass Table Tops Safe Around Pets Or Children?
As they are made from toughened table top glass, as long as the table is located in a sensible position where people are unlikely to fall onto it, and little ones and pets are prevented from climbing on top of it, the glass table top should be completely safe.
If you have very young children in a household, you can request extra rounded corners or use rubber bumpers and corner protectors to reduce the likelihood and seriousness of knocks against the table. Attaching the table top to the table is another way to make them safer, too.
How Do You Attach a Glass Table Top?
It is highly recommended to attach the toughened table top glass to your table to prevent it from sliding off if it is knocked over.
How you choose to attach it, you can use:
- Clear silicone sealant - the most secure option, use small dots in the corner or a thin line and allow it to cure for 24 hours.
- Rubber bumpers/pads - these are the easiest to remove; simply apply the clear vinyl or rubber bumpers for high-friction cushioning that prevents the glass from sliding.
- Section cups - these are best for glass or metal bases; simply position the suction cups under the glass table top.

What are the maximum dimensions for a glass table top?
Our range of protective glass table toppers comes in a variety of maximum sizes, depending on the shape of the glass. This includes:
- Round or square table tops – 500mm x 500mm to 1000mm x 1000mm
- Rectangle table tops – 600mm x 800mm to 3,000mm x 1,200mm
Likewise, our glass table tops are either 6mm thick, which is the minimum recommended for table tops in this material, or 10mm thick, which is more suitable for larger tables that need a more expansive yet still strong sheet of glass to cover the surface area.

Are glass table tops easy to maintain?
Glass table tops are a naturally resilient material, so they don’t require a lot of maintenance or stain easily.
To keep the glass in good condition, all you have to do is wipe it clean when needed with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth before drying and polishing, while avoiding surface damage that could mar the appearance.
To make this easier, always:
- Place hot objects on coasters or placemats
- Keep pets with sharp claws off the table
- Use placemats or chopping boards during activities that could scratch the surface
Doing so can keep your glass tabletop looking good for 20+ years!
Can you replace a glass table top?
If you want a new look or your old toughened table top glass is looking a little worse for wear, you can easily and simply replace it.
Remove the existing top and measure the table beneath. Then, choose a glass table top in the same size (or request a bespoke option if nothing matches) and, after delivery, lay the new topper in place - fixing it as you did before.
How to measure for a custom table top?
How to accurately measure changes depending on the shape of your current table.
For circles, measure the diameter by running the tape measure edge-to-edge through the centre. For squares, measure the total width and length at the widest points. Then, check if the corners are exactly 90 degrees or are rounded.
If your current top overhangs, remember to check that this is included in the measurements. If it fits into a certain frame depth or lip, measure this too, so you can be sure the glass thickness normally offered (6mm or 10mm for large sheets) will fit.
