Glass Bath Screen FAQs
What are the benefits of glass bath screens?
Whether you have a standard bath or a bath-and-shower combo, you’ll need a waterproof barrier to stop water splashing out onto the bathroom floor and nearby furnishings.
Constantly spilling water on the floor can cause a range of problems, from increasing the risk of slips and falls to damaging flooring and furnishings while using the facilities.
Outdated plastic curtains have been the go-to option for decades because they were low-cost, but this is reflected in how ineffectual they can be.
A curtain can easily fall down or be pulled over the side of the bath to drip water everywhere outside it, and they need to be replaced when they get grubby – which can happen quickly.
It’s a much better idea to invest in a glass bath screen, because it’s tough and reliable enough to last for a long time without requiring much maintenance.
Not only does this material look more modern and sophisticated, but with hinged bath screens, the reversible panel can also swing out of the way for easy access and back into place again for protection when you need it.
They also come with an easy-clean glass coating to reduce deposit build-ups, making it easier to wipe them clean.
Being made of clear glass, the toughened safety glass screen will create an effective barrier or enclosure without making the bathing area feel uncomfortably confined.
The space will look bigger when light can spread through the glass, which is especially helpful for small bathrooms.
Which bath screen size do I need to protect my bathroom floor?
To work out which size bath screen you should order, you must measure the area where you want to install it carefully.
If you can, it’s best to get another person to help you, and check the measurements a few times to make sure they’re as accurate as possible.
1) First, remove any objects or obstructions from the area, then use a measuring tape to measure from the edge of the bath up to where you want the panel to stop.
This will give you the height (the standard height of our bath screens is 1500 mm).
2) Next, measure from the wall that the panel hinges will be fitted to along the bath edge to the end point of where you want the toughened safety glass panel to cover.
This will give you the width (the standard widths available are 600 mm, 700 mm, 800 mm, or 900 mm).
3) It’s a good idea to re-take the measurements from a few different points, both height-wise and width-wise, and draw a basic diagram recording these details.
This will provide the most accurate idea of which of our bath screen sizes will be suitable, while also helping you to determine the right glass thickness and shape.
4) Be sure to measure the surrounding areas as well, taking any nearby features into account.
As this type of bath screen isn’t fixed in one position and they aren’t folding screens, it’s important to make sure there will be enough space to pull the panel open and back into place over the side of the bathtub without any obstructions.
For example, a towel rail on the wall next to the tub could pose a risk when swinging the hinged panel open, because even toughened safety glass can break from a concentrated impact.
What is the best style for bath screens?
If you’re looking for stylish bath screens to suit a traditional bath shape, we have the ideal standard bath screens here at EGW.
Not only do they use high-quality materials like toughened safety glass, but they also come with adjustable hinges for easy alignment, in a colour and finish of your choice.
The huge range of bath screens available at EGW includes clear panels in a variety of sizes, which emphasise a feeling of modern luxury thanks to the visual illusion of a brighter and larger open space – a must-have in contemporary bathrooms.
These connect to the bathroom wall with metal hinges for flexibility. While the hinged panel is still fixed securely to the wall, this mounting style allows you to move the panel back and forth, making it easier to climb in and out of the bathtub and clean the bathroom without hassle.
The hinge styles available with our bath screens include matt black, brushed chrome or polished chrome, and brushed brass or polished brass.
Silver chrome can match with other silver-toned bathroom fittings, while brass has a golden tone that fits in well with gold bathroom fittings (great for properties with vintage styles).
Will your hinged glass screens fit any bath?
We have multiple glass bath screen widths to suit a range of bath sizes, so there should be an ideal standard fit for most baths that can accommodate a vertical rectangular panel.
Our cut-to-size clear glass panels come with adjustable hinges for glass-to-wall installation, allowing you to adjust the alignment of the bath screen so it fits perfectly over your bathtub.
However, we know that not everyone’s baths or bathrooms are standard shapes or sizes – some may have irregular walls, ceilings, windows, or doors that affect the way a hinged glass screen can fit into the bath area and move back and forth safely.
That’s why we’ll always do our best to meet your needs if you contact EGW to request a bespoke bath screen for your unique dimensions.
