What are the advantages of printed kitchen splashbacks?
Printed glass splashbacks combine all the benefits of standard glass splashbacks with the advantage of being able to display a unique picture at the same time.
Not only are these products made from resilient toughened glass that can endure the heat of the kitchen, with a non-porous and stain-resistant surface for easy hygiene maintenance, but they also feature an image of your choosing printed clearly on the back side of the glass.
This means that a printed glass splashback works like a modern painting or photograph without a frame, acting as a piece of wall art while serving the practical function of protecting the wall behind it against various splashes and spills.
A vivid HD image is sure to be an eye-catching central feature in your kitchen décor, making it a fantastic option for anyone looking for something a little different from their splashback solution.
How are glass splashbacks printed?
The first step in the process is the customer choosing one of the printed kitchen splashbacks from our selection of images, or providing their own digital image for us to process, which must be high quality and within a specific size range.
The image can then be recreated on the back of a piece of glass during the tempering process, producing a toughened glass printed splashback
This is done using digital glass printers, which allow the glass to be heated on the flat print bed while printing heads on gantries above spray ceramic frit ink onto the glass, creating a crisp image from a series of dots – much like a standard jet printer would on a piece of paper.
Once the process is complete, you'll have a sheet of toughened printed glass with a perfectly reproduced image, which can be used as a kitchen splashback or simply as an alternative form of wall art if you so choose.
How are glass kitchen splashbacks fixed to the wall?
Most people prefer their kitchen splashbacks to appear seamless, without visible screws or fixtures disrupting the aesthetic. This is especially true for glass with specially printed designs, where the image covers the whole surface.
For this reason, we offer a silicone-based adhesive which can be purchased online with your printed glass splashback. This avoids the presence of screws detracting from your colourful printed image.
Of course, some customers may prefer to request drill holes when installing a glass splashback, as this will avoid showing any messy adhesive on the final product – but if you use the adhesive carefully as directed by the manufacturer, you shouldn't experience this problem.
In order to get a close fit, most customers prepare the wall beforehand, which can be done by sanding down any bumps or removing old tiles before installing the new kitchen splashback.
If you would prefer to mount your printed splashback with screws, however, you should contact us before ordering to find out whether we can pre-drill holes for them before toughening the glass and printing on it.
